"And when I countered the infamously ancient protective curse revealing the door to where the tomb was located?" Sebastien Proulx lay his chin on the palm of his hand, cerulean eyes that were uncharacteristically hazy under the dim lit Cambodian hut studied his partner of the last two weeks, anticipating her argument. He and Erika Trickett had known each other through work for years and it was not their first trip together, but it was without a doubt one of their most entertaining. "Also, just the product of your leadership?" The Frenchman spoke in clear English through a mischievous smile.

He and Erika had spent the last fortnite exploring the temples of Angkor Wat, on location for Gringotts. Although the two of them worked for different branches of the bank, it was not unsual that they were paired up together for missions that required senior level experience. Every time though, through the constant banter, they always managed to complete their mission. And  then some. In this case, that came to the tune of a whole room filled with precious jewels, long thought to have been lost forever.

Sebastien took another sip of the warm liquid from the tin cup that had been provided to the cursebreakers upon their arrival to the small local bar. The establishment was more of a hut than a bar, hidden among the vines and stone and protected from the night rain shower that had shown up unannounced. There was no menu, and instead they were treated to whatever the owner had prepared for them and the few other locals around them.

"Any idea what it is?" He picked up the small reddish piece of food and gave it once over before holding up to Erika to inspect.  If anyone was going to have a clue what the mystery food was, it was Erika Trickett. The woman had seen and done it all as far as Seb was concerned. She was fearless in her pursuit of adventure, and although he was jealous that she was the one that stumbled upon their bonus treasure, he ultimately had nothing but respect for her. Sebastien popped the surprisingly sweet round morsel into his mouth, his lips contorting in surprise.

It was hot.

Not just hot, sweltering. The heavy kind of heat, hazy and damp, the type where sweat wouldn't wick away and everything was kind of left a bit…moist. The air was still and thick as she slicked back her hair off her forehead and tied it into a messy ponytail high on the back of her head. Her cargo shorts and socks that stuck out of the top of her boots were dusty, as was her tee shirt. There was a slash across her midriff, a faint smudge of blood where she'd gotten into a minor scuffle with an unknown entity.

"Mmm," Erika replied darkly as she examined her tanned skin that peeked out from the hole in her shirt absently. "The phrase we like to use is "dumb luck"," she told Sebastien with a sweet smile. She felt nettled. "You found the door because your stupid big feet got caught in a vine and you almost cracked your head open. You're welcome," she added tartly, fabricating her own thank you for saving him just in time. "Next time, I'll just leave you," she muttered under her breath as she sipped the warm green tea from her can.

It didn't matter that they worked for the same place because she wanted the glory. All of it, all the time. Being a curse breaker meant she needed to be a team player and for the most part, she was…sort of.

Erika extracted a delicate filigree gold chain and ran it through her bruised fingers gently, admiring the way the metal caught the light. Erika had been doing this for years and yet, she often found herself marvelling at the centuries' old artefacts. Heck, this was over a millennia old. Swiftly, she stuffed the chain down her shirt and into her bra for safe keeping, flashing Sebastian a sunny smile.

When he asked what the food was, she pretended to figure it out whilst she deftly ate her vegetarian noodles with a rather wonky fork. Erika waited until Sebastian had swallowed. "Tarantula," she answered him. "Crunchy, no?" She smiled as she slurped at her noodles noisily. It was either tarantula or crocodile but crocodile meat was usually a little softer. Then again, the French had some pretty iffy menu items so it shouldn't be too much of a shock for him.

"Saum pir banthem tiet?" Erika asked as their host appeared, holding up her empty can with a smile. The man replied with a toothy smile and a surprisingly American gesture; two thumbs up. She snorted with laughter, figuring he often hung around with tourists and those yuppies who travelled on whatever a "gap year" was.

The tall blonde shifted a little as a breeze finally managed to waft through the open door to their little hut, causing her to close her eyes in delight and sigh. She must have gained umpteen freckles in the sun but back home, it was sleety and snowy and grey. Here was a million miles away, deep in the jungle, the unusual calls of the animals keeping her awake at night. But it was miles better than Sebastien's snoring. Charya, their host, returned and Erika offered a thumbs up in response, leaving him chuckling as he exited.

She held out another tin for Sebastien. Golden Muscle Wine was inside, made from mysterious herbs and deer's antlers. "Cheers," Erika said as she took a sip and instantly regretted it. With her eyes wide, she managed to promptly scramble to her feet and escape the hut, swiftly vomiting into a bucket.
