In this thread you will find a list of any open teaching positions around the schools. Administrators will post when a new position has opened up, and it is your responsibility to post in this thread if you're interested in taking over the role.

Professors are given moderator privileges and should be played with the utmost responsibility. Each professor should be a graduate of the school they are teaching at, should be over the age of thirty, and should follow the rules of their school (i.e. the appropriate nationalities, no Muggleborns without exceptional stories for Durmstrang, etc.). Professors are expected to keep their class lists up to date and to post in their classes regularly, as well as making new lessons as required.

For specific rules per school, please contact the respective School Admin: Olivia for Hogwarts, Laura for Beauxbatons, Dylan for Durmstrang, and Mel for Ilvermorny.

When applying for a position, make sure to include a sample of how you'll start your first lesson.

Any position designated “OPEN” may be applied for with your own character. NPC names are supplied for reference in threads, etc. – if you would like to “adopt” that NPC, you may apply to do so. Please note that all canons must be applied for in the Free & Taken Canon Characters thread.

For Department Heads, they must be at least 30 years old, however older is preferred. They must have worked for the Ministry for at least five years IC (which is subject to sheet review) and it must be realistic.

Also available at the Ministry are Lead positions. For example: Lead Auror, Lead Hit Wizard, Lead Obliviator, Lead Witch Watcher, etc. Most Ministry offices will have two to three lead positions available. The minimum age requirement is 25 years old (though 30+ is preferred), with at least four years of experience in the field/office.

For St. Mungo's Head Healers, your character must be at least 30 years old, though 35+ is preferred. They must have completed their Healer training, must have worked for St. Mungo's for a reasonable amount of time (they can't have just become employed a year or two ago IC), and it must be realistic. Again, this is subject to sheet review.

If you're still interested, please PM the form below to the school admin affiliated with your character's country of residence (i.e. Hogwarts Admin for British Ministry). Positions will be awarded first to already approved characters and then can be temporarily reserved (for 6 months real time) for WIPs.

Please note that all positions are subject to IC activity. In order for your character to keep their current position, they must be posted IC regularly: at least once every 6 months for any IC post, and at least once every 9-12 months in their specific job IC. If these basic requirements are not met, your character may be dropped from their position. This is to avoid 'cluttering' the positions with inactive characters, thus freeing up availability for active characters.

Position Desired:
IC Experience:
Why would your character be a good choice for the position? This doesn't have to be long, just enough to get the point across.

Hello!

I'd like to apply for the Alchemy prof position at Ilvermorny with a char called Gideon Salinger (name might still change but for now that's it). He's 33 and I suppose he'll be a Wampus graduate (gotta see if it still fits when I flesh him out more). He is a Potioneer and likes to create fun potions and sweets that he sold prior to his professor position.

Alchemy was fun. Well, it could be fun anyway. Gideon always tried to even make the theoretical part of the class seem endearing although it was hardly his favourite part. In fact, the part he clearly preferred was the practical one, especially experiments with extreme effects. He could always count on getting attention when he blew something off or created something amazing.

However, getting the attention of his students was not everything. The professor liked to see every student as an individual, refusing to see them just as a homogeneous group. While group dynamic was definitely a thing he could not ignore, he felt that every student deserved to be looked individually and should get the attention they needed. Sometimes he felt that it made no sense whatsoever to thoroughly plan a lesson because he'd throw the plan aside as soon as something popped up that seemed more important. School was not only there so students learned about class topics anyway.

Today's class was supposed to be theoretical but Gideon wasn't entirely sure he'd stick to that. He always had a bag which he had used an extension charm on with him in which he carried all kinds of things he could pull out if necessary. That way he was sort of prepared for a lesson even when he really wasn't.

When he reached the classroom a few students had already settled in. He let his bag fall on the floor next to his desk and waited briefly until the last few kids had taken their seats.

“Good morning,” he began, “I hope everybody's doing well today. We have some theoretical stuff to cover, I'm afraid. If you participate well today, we'll get over with it soon and can move on to something that's more fun.” He sat down on his desk. “So we'll get right at it. Does anyone know who Nicolas Flamel was?”

He looked around expectantly, thinking that most of his students surely knew who Flamel had been and what he was known for. If he was right, there was no need to talk about this extensively and he could instead allow them to test a new fun potion. After all, he still had a little side business going.

I'd like to apply for the position of Home economics magic professor at Ilvermorny with Ricky Cortes (first name may change). He's 33 and probably going to be a Pukwudgie graduate. Prior to teaching he travelled in Europe for a couple of years, ran his own cafe/diner in Arizona and I think he's got a failed marriage or relationship somewhere in his past. He's going to be old schoolfriends with Inga's prof if they're approved...

Ricky was already in his classroom a good half hour before the lesson was due to begin. The first class of a new year was always exciting, and he looked forward to it for weeks beforehand. Getting to meet new students for the first time, and reacquainting himself with those he hadn't seen since before summer vacation. Either way, first impressions were important, and he wanted to kids to feel comfortable that they could relax in his class, ask any questions they needed to and not worry about their grades suffering just because they didn't figure something out right away.

The room setup was a little out of the ordinary. The desks and chairs were laid out in two semicircular rows around one side of the room, with Ricky's desk in the front and a large space in between. He'd found this setup particularly effective given the large number of practical demonstrations he liked students use in his lessons, and it also gave the opportunity for students to come and stand around his own desk if he needed to show them something. The other side of the room housed several ovens, cupboards filled with cooking and household utensils, and a large selection of No-maj items. Some, like the sewing machines, had been adapted for magical use but others, like the ironing board, were there simply because Ricky liked the look of them and found them amusing.

Today they would be going back to basics. With five minutes to go before the beginning of class, he turned to the blackboard and flicked his wand. A piece of lime green chalk began to write

Good afternoon students, Welcome to Home Economics magic! Please call me Mr Cortes.

Take a seat and wait for class to begin. You may talk to the person next to you until everyone has arrived.

First semester - The Basics

- Cleaning charms
- Trash disposal
- Basic clothing repairs
- Fundamental kitchen spells
- Baking bread, with and without magic
- Super Soups
- The everlasting coffee pot
- Quiz

The chalk hovered in the air after this was finished, as if wondering whether it would be needed for anything else. Ricky left it there as, with another flick of his wand he sent a small roll of parchment over to each desk. The first students had appeared at the open door and he greeted them with a smile and a word or two to each as they filed in

“Good afternoon, great to see you...welcome back...did you enjoy the sorting ceremony?..ready for Friendship day?..good to meet you...” some students - mostly the older, more confident ones - responded, others scuttled past and nervously found a seat. Ricky took a step back as the last student entered the room and closed the door.

“Okay, so I hope you've all had time to read this semester's schedule, which you'll find written on your parchments” he began as the chatter died down “Keep those safe, they're your record of work completed for this class and they'll change to show your attendance and grades” Right now, each one simply listed the modules but at the end of today's class each student would see they now had an attendance mark and any other notes Ricky deemed important.

“Now, who can tell me about any experience they have with cleaning charms?” he asked, looking expectantly around the room.

I'd like to apply for the position of Magical Paradigms Professor at Ilvermorny, Arthur Cross, he's going to be 33, previously traveled the world studying a lot of why certain cultures practice magic the way they do. He's been trying to make a book for years at this point, almost ran out of money, and applied for this job to bulk up his finances and spread his knowledge to the young minds of today, since his book won't come out for many more years.

The newly minted Professor Cross walked about his classroom, making sure everything was perfect for his students imminent arrival. He'd set up a course syllabus on each of their desks, a quill and ink pot set, and a piece of paper. The reason for this was two-fold; he wanted his class to have a good first impression of him, and the other was that these were the most important utensils in his class, so there now was no excuse for not coming prepared for class. He'd opened up two of the windows to let a cool breeze through the the classroom, because he knew that a classroom full of teenage students could get-- odorous to say the least.

He reread the syllabus for the course, printed in a scrawling, spaced-out handwriting:

Magical Paradigms
taught by Professor Arthur Cross

Class Overview:
In this class, you will learn about the four different main paradigms of magic, and the fifth one we use to determine which paradigm is appropriate for a situation. You will discover where various cultures fall under the Magical Paradigms, how that is relevant to how we communicate our different uses of magic today. You will embark on a journey of discovering how you interact with magic, and how it interacts with you. You will also find out through research, self-study and in-class discussions about how all of this is relevant to you, and why it will make you a better wizard in the future.

Topics we will cover:
This is a non-exhaustive list

  • The Four (+ One) Magical Paradigms
    • The Spirit Paradigm
    • The Energy Paradigm
    • The Psychological Paradigm
    • The Information Paradigm
    • The Meta Paradigm
  • The Cultures of Magic
  • The "What" of Magic
  • The Spirit of Magic
  • The Feeling of Magic
  • The "Where" of Magic
  • The Psychology of Magic
Grading Scheme:
Grades will be determinate on the participation in class, by routine, standard examination, and by the breadth and depth of knowledge shown in written assignments and discussions.

A: To earn a score of "A," a student has gone above and beyond all requirements and expectations. Accordingly, the student is present for all or nearly all lessons and shows distinct promise in the field.

B: To earn a score of "B," a student's paper is well written and directly answers the questions asked. The student is present for nearly all lessons and participates actively. An "B" is recommended for any students wishing to pursue this subject at the W.E.N.D.I.G.O. level.

C: To earn a score of "C," all questions are answered and reference the class they correspond with. Student shows understanding and comprehension of the subject matter and lesson at hand. In most cases, the student is present for most lessons.

D: To earn a score of "D" means a student did not answer all questions asked or they were not answered correctly, and didn't reference the corresponding lesson (correctly). However, the student does show a mild understanding of the material covered. Likewise, the student shows some, albeit weak, comprehension of the subject matter.

F: One does not earn a "F;" rather, they call it upon themself. No attributes of a Ilvermorny student are displayed. This student might as well be a troll.

He set the paper back down on the desk he took it from, and sauntered back around to his blackboard, writing "Welcome to Class" and "Question of the Day" on the board in powder-blue chalk. He then wrote the actual question he wanted answered, "Why would learning how someone interacts with magic be important to know?", he ended writing with a flourish, underlining the question twice.

He looked at the door, seeing students filed in front of it. He looked down at his pocket watch, confirming that it was indeed time to let the students in. He strode over to the door, put on a big smile, and unlocked the door. He swung the door open slowly, propping it open with a stop. He greeted each of the students at the door as they came in. Only when the last stragglers came in did he close the door, and walk back behind his desk.

"Well.. Welcome to Magical Paradigms!" he said, beaming to his class, "I'm Professor Arthur Cross, your teacher this year," he gestured around the room to his class, "nice to meet all of you." He shuffled left towards the blackboard, "I'd just like to note before we start, that all of you should have the utensils to start class on your desks, if you do not, let me know, and I can furnish you with more." he said with a grin, patting his bags of stationary goods. Cost him a bit at the store in Shackamaxon, but he decided it'd be worth it.

He cleared his throat, signaling the beginning of class, and pointed to the question, the tips of his fingers visibly dusted with powder blue dust, that he'd freshly written on the board. "Can anyone answer me this question?" The question was purposefully vague, and it would be individual for each student, highlighting the significance of understanding how magic is seen throughout the world being an important thing. He had faith that his class would be insightful, and that his first class would go without a hitch.

"I'll take several answers, to clarify."

Hey! I'd like to apply for the Charms professor position at Ilvermorny with Dottie Dubé hailing from Canada. She's around 32/33 and a former Thunderbird. She was formerly in the office of magic relations and education at MACUSA for several years, and wants to teach now for two main reasons; the first, being that she was never one for following rules and would much rather be hands-on than be stuck in a boring office making said rules and second, that Inga's @Gideon Salinger is her daughter's baby daddy and she wants her child to actually know her father, even if she hasn't told her about him yet. Her teaching style is wacky and unorthodox, she certainly prefers practical lessons rather than theory.

Perched on top of her desk, Professor Dubé admired her new classroom. She'd spruced it up a bit but made sure that it was still plain and empty enough that when special occasions came she could really go to town. She was itching to start decorating for the next holiday, not that she was sure which one came next, but it was gonna be one hell of a good lesson for the kids. Who wouldn't want to make cool decorations in class and get rewarded for it? It's not like it wasn't going to be useful, there were so. many. charms.

That thought brought her back to the present and the lesson she was going to do that day. Quite simply, blackboards were dumb and Dottie vowed that she wouldn't be needing them. Her gaze fell on the three blackboards at the front of the classroom with red, white and blue chalky targets drawn on them. Her predecessor must have been nuts. No one could possibly have done so much theory that warranted three blackboards!

As the students piled into the classroom, Professor Dubé startled and knocked several miniature blackboards off her desk and hurtling towards the floor. Dottie barely even blinked, however, as she simply waved her hands to bring them back, this time onto the chair to hide them from the student view. Realising that as soon as one child per blackboard succeeded the lesson would have been over, Dottie had duplicated numerous blackboards and shrunk them down to fit in the palm of her hand. As present though, it was one blackboard for the weaker students, one for the middle-of-the-pack kids and one for the 'those who would probably take over her job one day' kids.

"Hello, my students," Dottie began as she slipped of the desk to stand to her full height, "I am Professor Dubé, and it is a pleasure to meet you all." She tried her best to look at each child in the classroom with a smile, before realising she should probably introduce her background. "For the past few years, I've been part of the office at MACUSA that make all the rules about your education... and now I am here to break all of them." She gave them all a huge grin at this as she rubbed her hands together gleefully, setting the tone immediately for what kind of professor she was going to be.

"So," Dottie moved on, as she walked to stand in front of the blackboards and started wagging her index finger along with her words. "Explosions are great fun and very helpful for many, many things." She shiftily looked about the class as if she was about to tell them a big secret. "I have a feeling my predecessor disagreed with this, and so in order to prove them wrong we're going to blow up their blackboards. BOOM!" She threw her hands wide to imitate an explosion as she randomly shouted. "You see, theory is useless, my students, if you can't put what you learn into practice." She moved back to her desk and lent against it. "I know everything about Alchemy theoretically, but can I make a decent potion in real life? Absolutely not." She paused at this, frowning slightly as she thought of Gideon and wondered what he was doing right that second.

"So, before we start with the fun bit, who can tell me the incantation and wand movement needed?"
