[School beautification] All the pretty things (Nata)
    « on: July 06, 2018, 11:14:25 AM »
Rosalia had done different student services over her years at school. All of them had been decent but none had been really fun. Due to the most recent ongoings at Beauxbatons, the seventh year had decided to ask to change her service to school beautification, because, honestly, the school needed beautification after the half giants and giants had wreaked havoc around the school. It was not like it mattered that much anymore to Rosa, it was her last year at school, only several weeks were left until she'd be free... Well, not free, as she had most recently found out. In fact she felt like her graduation meant that she'd go from school to a life imprisonment. She was married off to a creepy boy after all.

Maurice Moreau was as far from being the man of her dreams as a giant from being a ballet dancer at the Scala in Milan. Rosalia had not really told anyone about the arranged marriage yet, thinking that she could maybe reverse it. However, she didn't have high hopes for that and thus her mood had suffered remarkably. She did not flirt as much as usually, feeling that she'd have to get rid of her future fiancée first before looking for a possible boyfriend.

One thing the Italian was looking forward to today was that she'd have it with her distant cousin Donatella though. The two girls got along pretty well, mostly because they both enjoyed going shopping, and Rosa felt that Nata would understand her distress. With her pink gardening gloves already on, Rosa marched through the grounds towards the younger girl, greeting her with a brief hug and a smile that was less warm than usual. "Ciao Nata," she said, her voice less enthusiastic than usual. "How are you? Where do we begin?" She looked around at the mess surrounding them. There was simply too much destroyed to easily figure out where to begin. There was barely a flower bed that was not an entire mess, pots and statues were broken, plants were laying dead on the ground... In fact, the looks of the grounds matched Rosalia's mood perfectly. She felt like her life was like these flower beds - simply ruined. And while one could probably restore the flower beds to their full beauty again, her life seemed to be beyond repair.

With these thoughts on mind, Rosalia stood there, sighed and waited for Nata to take the initiative. After all, the seventh year felt unable to do so.

There was something off about cugina Rosalia. It didn’t take a particularly bright mind to notice that the seventh year Papillonlisse hadn’t been acting like herself lately. Donatella took note especially how Rosalia didn’t seem to spend as much time with boys as before, even if she was merely just flirting. Nata didn’t have that in common with her distant cugina, nonetheless, for the other witch not to act like extraverted herself meant that something serious had happened.

Donatella hoped that it was just butterflies in the stomach; in the end, graduation was approaching. Not that Rosalia needed to worry about her NEWTs examinations, for the Venetian was absolutely sure the Papillonlisse would pass them all remarkably well, but the thought of perhaps Rosalia feeling off due to stepping outside of Beauxbatons’ hallways as a proper adult distressing the older Italian had been taken into serious account by Donatella. With that in mind, the Bellefeuille had suggested the two of them meet up, and continue with replanting some flowers that the giants have destroyed, even by sleeping on them, or eating them. It was now Nata’s aim to replant all, and have Beauxbatons’ gardens look as perfect as always. However, it would be great for Rosalia as well. If she indeed was worried about leaving Beauxbatons behind her for good, the older witch would leave something behind – flowers she would replant. Little darlings which will grow up to be as beautiful and elegant as her cugina.

Donatella had arrived earlier, much earlier, having already started the cleaning up process. She’d enchanted the gardening tools to pull out the remaining roots, and whatever weeds made their appearance, to have everything prepared for Rosalia. After all, she wouldn’t want Rosalia to lose her somewhat good mood over this as well. Seeing dead plants when one wasn’t feeling at their best could be tragic. However, Donatella had lost track of time as soon as her bunny Gioconda woke up, and the two started playing. Donatella was on her knees on the ground, casually twirling her wand, as her little bunny was rolling around on a patch of fresh grass. Oh, how lovely was her little Gioconda! But then she’d heard footsteps, and the Bellefeuille raised her gaze, a bit disappointed in herself that she hadn’t finished everything she had planned before Rosa’s arrival.

“Ciao, Rosa.” She greeted her cousin on a cheerful tone, being in quite the contrast with the other witch’s. Nata hugged her back, and her smile faded slightly as Rosa was still in a bad mood. “Oh.” Noticing that her cousin was looking at the dead plants, Nata pointed her wand towards them, and gently levitated them on a blanket she’d prepared. There was no need to throw anything away, for each and every plant was a precious ingredient for her potions. “I was thinking I could clean up, and you could replant? Leave your own little marvellous Rosalia Rossellini flower bed behind.” She replied cheerfully, pulling out a small bag out of her pocket. “Here.” She handed it over to her cousin, smile widening once more. “I brought several seeds, so you can pick out all of your favourites.” Donatella nodded once in approval, and hoped that the little gesture would improve Rosa’s mood, even if just slightly.

“And I’m alright.” Donatella remarked, gently moving her wrist as she started with repairing the flower pots. Those kind of spells weren’t her forte, so they would be taking a bit longer than usual. But that shouldn’t bother anyone, right? “I mastered a seventh year spell, quite proud of that. But otherwise…” Nata shrugged, only now realising how boring her life’s been as of late. With everything going on at Beauxbatons, students protests and giants around, Nata had little time to do anything but study. “How about you?” She asked shyly, not wanting to make things worse by prying. However, if Rosa would open up about what’s been on her mind as of late, then Donatella would do her best to help her cugina.

Rosalia nodded at Donatella's suggestion. Truth be told she'd have nodded along anything the other girl would say. She did not feel like thinking about what to do, she did not feel like actually doing any of the tasks they were facing. Basically the Papillonlisse felt like doing nothing at all. She couldn't even yell or cry. She felt empty in the worst kind of ways. Nothing had appeal to her these days. "Sounds good," she said her voice sounding hollow.

She caught sight of Nata's little bunny which she usually found absolutely adorable and would pat and cuddle whenever the two girls spent time with each other. However, now not even little Gioconda could put a smile on her face. The girl sighed and shook her head as though to rid herself of all these dark thoughts that so untypically busied her.

She held the seeds Nata had given her in her gloved hands but did not move or show any motivation to do anything at all. The idea Donatella had had was a nice one, quite perfect actually. Yet, right now planting a flower bed felt no better than cleaning a toilet - though there were elves for the latter and if the elves failed to do their job she could just flick wand but that was not the point, of course.

So Nata was doing okay, Rosalia offered a grimace that at least resembled a smile. "Well done," she acknowledged her cousin's mention of the seventh year spell. Again her voice had little in common with the usual Rosalia Rossellini voice that was enthusiastic and sympathetic.

"Me?" Rosalia looked at the younger girl with a puzzled expression. Of course she was asked how she was doing. It was natural that the Bellefeuille would ask that after she had been asked as well. Nonetheless, Rosalia was momentarily confused. How should she respond to that? She wanted to talk to Donatella about the recent news but she wasn't sure how to begin and, therefore, took her time to weigh her words while, finally, beginning to put some seeds rather arbitrarily into the soil.

"I'm not so great to be honest," she began, looking at the other girl. "Apparently I'm going to get engaged this summer," she said, anger welling up. "And it's not anyone I have or would ever choose." She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm but shook her head again. "I just can't... my whole life is ruined." Tears were watering her eyes now. Finally she could at least cry. However, she did not to cry. Not in front of her younger cousin. Actually not in front of anyone. Without giving it any thought at all, she lifted her hand to dry her tears, unknowingly smearing earth on her cheeks in the process.

    Donatella froze.

It was only when her wrist stopped moving and one of the flower pot she was repairing broke again, causing quite some noise, that the girl realised her mind had gone blank for a few moments. Pull yourself together. The Venetian told to herself, her back straightening, as she decided to do it all at once. Reparo wasn’t her forte, spell-casting wise, but it was much better than slowly putting the pots together. “Reparo.” The Bellefeuille said sharply, and clearly, and at the end of her wand movement, the pots starting to repair themselves. Now she didn’t have to point her wand towards them all the time.

Instead her gaze turned towards Rosalia, and upon setting her eyes on her cugina’s figure, Nata felt her own complexion becoming at least two shades paler than it already was. It only took Rosalia to just admit she’s not that great to get Donatella in such a state. Her eyes widened as she listened to her cugina, completely horrified by what she was hearing. Engaged? Rosalia? But why? She was still so young, only seventeen. Why would zio Milo take such a decision? Such an awful decision.

    This was the worst.

Donatella’s eyes were filled with tears, the girl being not only horrified, but also in complete and utter shock. And she was scared. She was scared for Rosalia. “Rosa…” Donatella bend over and hugged her cousin, not even knowing how to begin to console her. How could she even comfort the Papillonlisse? There was no remedy for that. “Who is he?” The Bellefeuille asked, pulling away from the embrace and gently removing the dirt from the other girl’s cheek. “Do I know him?”

As much as Rosalia had tried to regain her composure, once she saw Donatella's reaction to the news and felt that hug, it broke out of her. Sobbing, the girl leaned against her cousin's shoulder, trying but failing to get a grip again. Her face wet from tears looked smeared with mud on one side but the usually so vain girl couldn't care less. In fact, she was absolutely unaware of it. In her current state looks were of no consequence anymore anyway. She did not have to impress any boys anymore - she'd get a husband who meant literally nothing to her and likely vice versa.

She freed herself a little out of the embrace to look at Donatella. "Don't you cry," Rosa brought out between two sobs, realising that her cousin's eyes, too, were filled with tears.

She clung a little tighter to her, the closeness and warmth feeling comforting when she had thought that nothing could give her comfort anymore. Rosalia nodded in response of Nata's question, not immediately able to respond. The sobs were now coming in a slower succession and the Papillonlisse tried to calm down entirely. That, naturally, was hard given the situation at hand.

"I do and you do, too." The girl finally muttered grimly. "You wouldn't be able to guess it. I don't think he'd be on your radar at all." While she had intended to voice his name another flood of tears streamed down her face, distracting her from doing so.

Nata bit her lower lip, trying as much as she could to listen to Rosa, and not cry. However, it was pointless, for more and more tears gathered in her eyes as each moment passed by. How could she not feel sad when hearing such a piece of news? The Bellefeuille felt absolutely awful for her cousin, and even worse because she couldn’t even comfort the Italian. There was nothing she could say to make Rosalia feel better. Arranged marriages were the worst.

Her eyes widened with interest as Rosa nodded in approval as a response to her question. So she did know the fiancé as well. Donatella then wondered how or when did she meet the wizard in question. She wasn’t aware of whether or not he was a student, so the options were limitless. However, the Venetian could only assume that he was either a student himself, perhaps a seventh year like Rosalia. But then again, Nata didn’t exactly know that many seventh years. The other possibility would be that he was even older, an adult. Then, Donatella didn’t even know where to begin with. She’d met many wizards at the countless parties her parents had taken her to.

Rosalia was right. Donatella couldn’t guess it at all. The possibilities were infinite, even in their own elite world. “On my radar?” Nata repeated, a perfectly manicured eyebrow arching. For a moment she pondered on whether or not she even had any guys on her radar. The ones she was acquainted with weren’t exactly her type. Well, not that she actually even had a type in men. Donatella mostly found the younger men – those in their mid-twenties – of la famiglia handsome, she guessed. They were always nicely groomed, and wearing the best robes. But she wouldn’t exactly state they were on her radar.

Out of students… Donatella could admit she found Bruno’s boldness quite charming but otherwise the boys were pretty bland. She didn’t even know how Rosa found several guys at school to flirt with in the first place. The other male students she knew and was closer to were Ludwig, whom she was now avoiding at all costs, thank you very much, and Jaspar, whom she definitely didn’t find appealing. There was Louis too – but he wasn’t even a boy, more like a puppy, so he couldn’t even be part of this categorisation. Naturally, she was positive none of them would be Rosalia’s fiancé.

She sighed, obviously unable to come up with a name. Donatella pulled out her foam green silk handkerchief, and wiped Rosa’s tears. She would’ve just handed the other girl the hankie, but Nata figured her cousin deserved all the pampering at the moment. “Who is he then?” Donatella asked, gently placing her right hand on the Papillonlisse’s cheek. It was hard to talk about, yes, but before she could know how and if she could help, Nata needed to know whom this awful fiancé was.

    "Maurice Moreau."

The name was like venom on her tongue, she could barely speak it aloud. Her voice was a toneless whisper as she spoke the four syllables of his name.  She couldn't, she wouldn't love whim. They were bound to be unhappy for all eternity.

Moreau... the French family was not even wealthy anymore. They had lost their status as far as Rosalia knew.

Maurice... the guy was an insufferable git and definitely not worth her attention.

The girl felt as though she was drowning in her hopeless misery. She tried to take a deep breath, tried to get a grip and talk to her cousin again. Rosalia wanted to share her thoughts on Moreau with Donatella. However, she couldn't speak just yet. Brushing some tears off her face with her gardening gloves, the girl looked around, eager to find something to distract herself with until she'd manage to stop crying. She pulled out her wand, repairing a little statue but had to repeat the spell twice until it worked properly. She was not usually that bad at a comparably simple spell like this, not anymore now that she was close to graduating.

"He's an Ombrelune," Rosalia added. "A sixth year and apparently we'll get officially engaged this summer." Her voice trembled slightly as she said so. "Nata, I... I can't do that. I cannot marry him."

“… a French?” Donatella instantly asked upon hearing the fiancé’s name, being more repulsed than anything. Ruining perfectly good Italian blood with inferior French genes.

The Venetian glanced in Rosalia’s direction, watching her repair one of the little statues. Perhaps repairing would keep her cousin more occupied rather than planting. Donatella took the tiny bag of seeds, not saying anything. Rosa wasn’t ready to talk, and it was better not to push. Not in such a delicate situation.

Nata opened the small bag and looked inside, thinking that she should perhaps plant the seeds, to make a nice flowerbed as a present to her cousin. To plant all her favourite flowers, all elegant and delicate, just as the Papillonlisse. It torn her that Rosalia was so fragile emotionally right now, and Donatella couldn’t help but think that she was going to have a similar destiny. Her closest cousin, Luciana, wasn’t engaged yet, but as far as she knew from her own father, her uncle was definitely expecting Lucia to also find someone suitable.

Donatella’s thoughts were (thankfully) interrupted by Rosalia’s following remark – what? An Ombrelune? Sixth year? Then it explained why Nata didn’t know him. Aside from the fact that he was also French. Was he rich? Influential? She didn’t know. Donatella didn’t consider herself ignorant, nonetheless she’s never heard of the certain family, nor did she recall her father mentioning them to her.

“You don’t have to marry him though.” Nata shrugged, arching one of her eyebrows. “He’ll still be in school for one more year, and you never know what will happen. A troll invasion killing him, a house elf falling in love and getting possessive, a giant – “ why not “ – eating him for lunch. Actually, there’s still time for that now.” Donatella bit her lower lip, placing her hand on her cousin’s shoulder.

“Or a small poison slipped in his drink, every day at lunch.” Donatella retrieved her hand and flipped her hair over shoulder, picking up a seed from the bag carefully planting it with her wand. “A year is such a long time…” Her voice trailed off, hoping Rosalia would catch the hint. Nata wasn’t beneath making poisons for her cousin. In the end, the fiancé was French and Merlin knew how good those weren’t – proof was that the French ruined the school this year, so they were obviously all out of their minds.

"Si," Rosalia confirmed. Maurice was a French. Not that he would have been a lot more desirable if his passport would state that he was Italian. He was a loser, he was a git, he was nobody Rosalia thought was worth her.

Donatella picked up the seeds now. It was not that Rosalia didn't want to plant anything for she did. However, right now she wasn't ready for it. She wasn't calm enough yet to focus on it and take pleasure from it. Repairing things did not make her feel better though. If only she could repair her own life... Her life was shattered like the flower pots... The girl sighed deeply and then pulled out a handkerchief to clean her nose.

"I don't have to marry him yet," Rosalia explained. "The official engagement is supposed to take place this summer. It'll be a big feast... You're invited, I'd assume. Just make sure you stay under the radar so that nobody gets the idea to set you up with anyone. Then again, I think there's no one worse than Moreau." Her voice was still trembling but it had regained some sharpness at least. The Italian didn't want to be weak because of the news she had although she felt like breaking. She wanted to fight with all her might against the looming darkness that was her future life.

A small smile spread across Rosa's face as Nata told her about the possible fate of her future husband. Poison was an elegant method to get rid of Maurice. It had style. "Don't say anything like that aloud," the seventh year whispered, looking around suspiciously as she absentmindedly flicked her wand once more to repair another pot that afterwards looked like a cubist sculpture.

"What kind of poison had you been thinking about?" She asked as she stepped closer to her cousin again. Her eyes were still reddened from crying, her face smeared from mud and tears but there was a hopeful little smile now, indicating that maybe not everything was lost yet.

Donatella would rather not attend a funeral disguised as a wedding. Especially if that event focused on Rosalia. The girl decided not to comment, but the idea of her own father having these kind of awful ideas horrified her. Her own parents have had an arranged marriage, and theirs had been very successful, nonetheless, they had luck. Not everyone was as lucky as them. Clearly not Rosalia.

She was glad to notice the slight change in the Papillonlisse’s tone, her voice becoming sharper. At least talking about it had eased Rosalia to some extent. In the end, no matter how embarrassing, talking about one’s problems did ease the heart, she supposed. Not that Donatella was a fan of over-sharing, but Rosalia was family, and family had to stick together. Especially in working on how to not make a French part of their family.

“Is he that bad? I mean… I didn’t even hear of him.” She asked, being more curious as of how the fiancé actually was. In the end, if Nata hadn’t heard of him, he was neither truly great or truly bad. At most, he was average. And average was the actual worst, for it was dull, and plain, and boring.

She shrugged at Rosalia’s whisper. It was no secret Donatella enjoyed brewing all kind of potions, so even if someone were to overhear, she wouldn’t especially mind. Having a love for all potions was equalitarian and fair; she liked them all, with no discrimination whatsoever. “Oh, I don’t know…” Donatella commented, as she planted one more seed. “It’s quite easy to stress someone out in their final year. I imagine a potion which ages one faster wouldn’t be that bad.” He could graduate at sixty. Literally. And die a month later due to old age.

“Or, one that makes one have hallucinations. Those are always fun.” Nata giggled, remembering how she’d previously tested one on herself. They were definitely interesting to experience. “Or… just slow, painful death.” Donatella innocently batted her eyelashes in Rosalia’s direction, a sweet smile appearing on her face. It was Rosa’s decision in the end, however, Nata had to admit she’d prefer the latter. It was much more thorough. A slow kind of pleasant (for her) torture.

Rosalia raised her eyebrows. She could hardly believe that Maurice's bad reputation hadn't reached Donatella. Was that a good or a bad sign? Was he so insignificant that only those who had had the misfortune to meet him in person ended up remembering him? The girl didn't know and, truth be told, she didn't want to investigate further. He was not worth her time and energy.

"That bad?" Rosalia almost shrieked. "He's worse. He is a whiny boy with complexes. A misanthrope who most likely cannot feel any sympathy. He's an egoist, tormenting others in order to make them feel worse than he does. Well, that's what I know about him." The girl stamped her feet and turned around when she felt tears welling up again.

The topic of his death made Rosalia get a grip again. The Papillonlisse knelt down next to the Bellefeuille, also grabbing some seeds from the bag. She knew that her cousin liked potions, she knew that she liked to try out some illegial stuff but she had not made the connection that Nata could help her with her problem until the other girl had told her so.

"They all sound intriguing," the seventh year said in a hushed voice as she pushed a seed way too deep into the earth. She wondered about the fate she deemed appropriate for Maurice and then shrugged. It was not that she wished for his death. It would be convenient now, yes, but he had not really done anything to her. What she knew about him was mostly girly gossip from the Papillonlisse common room. Maybe killing him went too far although it would solve the problem ultimately. In the end not only her fiancé would go poof, it was also a sign for her grandfather whose plan this marriage was. It was hard to make a decision there.

"I think maybe if he just... I don't know..." lost his mind, his memory, his life... Rosa didn't know. She didn't want to do any harm but she didn't want to be the victim in this charade either. "Could we... change him? I mean, alter his personality by the use of potions?" She wasn't sure that would work for a long time. She knew there were potions that could influence a person for a limited and brief amount of time but could they change him thoroughly and permanently?

Rosalia’s fiancé sounded like the worst kind of nightmare. She’d never liked loners or pessimists herself, so perhaps that was the reason why Donatella did not know the boy. Nonetheless, his personality was awful, and did not match her cousin’s at all. This was ridiculous. What was zio Milo even thinking? Clearly not caring about his own daughter’s happiness and well-being.

Thankfully enough, Rosa was being distracted quite well by the discussion of poisons. Even if slightly, the Papillonlisse was beginning to become more and more like herself again.

Donatella visibly pouted quite upset at Rosalia’s indirect refusal of poisoning the fiancé to death. Altering one’s personality, while interesting, was pretty boring compared to slow and painful death. “Is he handsome then?” Nata inquired, obviously intrigued by why Rosa wouldn’t mind him if he were to have a different personality. “Rich? Influential? Will he be a proper life partner should his personality only be different?” Her eyebrow arched, as she turned her gaze towards her cousin.

“I guess a love potion would be fun to experiment with. While it wouldn’t change his personality completely, it would make him completely and undeniably in love with you. When you love someone, you’re especially nice to them, right?” She asked, genuinely curious, as Donatella hadn’t experienced that feeling. “Unless you want to change his personality in relation to others too. But then again, that wouldn’t make you the special one.” Nata commented, thinking about what other potions she could suggest.

The fact that they wouldn’t be killing him was still on her mind, Donatella feeling especially disappointed about that.

Rosalia saw her cousin pouting, but it did not change anything. The older girl shook her head. "You cannot kill people that get in your way." She explained as though she was speaking to a little child who didn't know anything about right or wrong yet. Then she grinned a little and looked down before muttering: "Only as a last resort..."

Was Maurice handsome? His personality overshadowed his physical appearance in a way that made it impossible to say. He was not the worst looking boy at the school... not the best either. He was not what Rosalia would consider boyfriend material but yet again she wasn't sure if that was not mostly due to his personality. Then Nata asked about the family status which were valid questions albeit none she could answer easily.

"The Moreaus aren't rich." Rosalia said thoughtfully. "Might even be called poor," she added wrinkling her nose in disgust. However, the Papillonlisse had never honestly thought about where to draw lines there. Influential? Well, they were not famous for anything, the girl assumed. They were not in high positions at the ministry either. However, they had to have some sort of influence even if Rosalia herself was oblivious to it.

"Well," Rosa began, "I guess they must have some sort of influence. Grandfather would not have arranged this otherwise. He would not waste his time on setting me up with a poor French boy without any influence in the family." Her voice trailed off, now that she thought about it, Rosalia wasn't that sure about it anymore. The Moreaus were purebloods, maybe that had been enough of a reason?

"A love potion?" the Papillonlisse echoed feeling appalled and intrigued at the same time. "I don't want him to follow me around like a puppy! I want him to not be quite so insufferable... I... oh I don't know what I want. I don't want to marry him!" Her voice had become shrill, almost hysteric. Who was she fooling, plotting to make Maurice less of a nightmare when, in the end, it was of no consequence. She did not want to marry him at all.

Donatella frowned, confused. She did not understand what Rosalia meant. Of course one could easily kill people that got in their way. That was why killing curses existed, right? That was why poisons were invented. She genuinely didn’t know where her cousin was coming from, even stating that it was only a last resort. The Venetian decided not to comment on it, since Rosalia’s mind was clearly affected by all the emotions she was feeling. She definitely wasn’t stable enough to appreciate a good old murder through poisoning.

Donatella found herself freezing once more as Rosalia mentioned the fiancé’s family was actually poor. Why would the Rossellini family even consider such an alliance then? This wasn’t thought-out at all. It was getting worse and worse with each detail she found out, and Donatella decided this was a story to surpass all horror novels out there.

She let out a heavy breath in relief when she found out the fiancé’s family did have some sort of influence, nonetheless Rosa’s explanation wasn’t calming at all. What kind of influence did the French family have? That was very important. “So it wasn’t zio Milo who arranged it?” She asked, naturally shocked. However, Donatella was sure that wouldn’t happen to her. Salvatore wouldn’t allow anyone but himself or Yvonne to interfere in Dona’s personal life, which even if it was worrisome on a different level, it was also rather reassuring. At least her father would have to find someone fit for her, and not a third party.

Donatella rolled her eyes, not really knowing what Rosalia wanted anymore. No to murder, no to love potions.

“Maybe hallucinogens then. They will drive him insane without too much work, and in a very noticeable way. I mean, if he would be openly crazy surely your nonno would change his mind regarding the engagement?” It was obviously a question, for Donatella didn’t remember Rosalia’s grandfather that well. She vaguely recalled seeing him once or twice as a young child, but not enough to actually form an opinion of him. And Salvatore didn’t talk about him a lot either, so Nata had no idea as to what to expect. However, she would help Rosalia at all costs, that was sure.

"No," Rosalia confirmed. "Grandpa was it. Truth be told I know little about the arrangements. I only got two letters, one from nonno claiming that he had arranged it all and one from my father to say that something had been decided and that I wouldn't like it." She looked disgusted. "Not like it..." she repeated, her voice trembling with fury now. "He seemed apologetic but... he should have done something instead of writing to me that something had been arranged."

The girl sighed and picked up some dead flowers, holding them gingerly in her gloved hands and looking at them with a sad, almost pained expression. "That's me," she whispered not actually directed at her cousin.

Donatella had already done a good job removing most of the dead flowers in the flower beds surrounding them but as they marched a little further there were still plenty.  She collected some more flowers from the grounds, not summoning them with a flick of her wand but bowing down to take them all with her hands.

"Hmm..." Nata's suggestion was not convincing. None of them really. They were too drastic. Then again, if she could not reason with nonno anymore she would have to resort to drastic means for sure. "I will try and reason with nonno," Rosalia said sheepishly, almost feeling ashamed that she did not want to poison Maurice right away.

"I mean, it's not Maurice's fault," she explained. "He is an insufferable git but he does not want to marry me either. Does he, therefore, deserve death?"

Rosalia had a feeling that her cousin did not agree with her, did not understand her reasoning and the seventh year herself almost wished to be as scrupulous as Donatella so she would just take the initiative and do what has to be done.
