[mp] [gardens] makin' monsters [open!]

Drina was certain the Papilonlisse's would have the best pumpkins this year, it was only logical, they were the most creative. She was one hundred percent bias toward her house with only a few exceptions like her niece and it was not really something she hid very well. After giving the kitchens some pointers on how to not ruin the pumpkin pie this year she headed down to the formal gardens. The plump and prideful witch had a traditionally ridiculous set of witch's robes on, it was made from a flowy black and purple material with lacy sleeve ends and silver embellishments. The bottom folds of the skirt were enchanted with spooky scenes like witches on brooms, black cats, and lightning strikes. Her make up was just as over stated, purple eye shadow was accentuated with thick black liner and a of course black lipstick. She got really into the holidays. Taking a large pumpkin and floating it toward her own little blanket she didn't stop to think maybe this event was only for the students to participate in. If there was something crafty going on, she'd be damned if she wasn't participating.

As she passed by a student she smiled at their workmanship, impressed by what they had accomplished, regardless of their house. "Oh how creepy." She said, clasping her hands together excitedly and then finding herself surprised as it made her levitation charm falter. Her pumpkin wobbled in the air and fell to the ground with a thud, surely denting the thing, and the professor pulled a face. There was a reason she taught potions and not charms, after all. Before going to collect her misshapen vegetable she pulled a little glowing green vial labelled "makin' monsters" out of her pocket to hand to the student in front of her. She had all kinds of them in her robes, for just this occasion. "It'll make things even spookier..." She told the student with a twinkle of mischief in her eyes, the potion would surely add some kind of interesting charm to their pumpkin creation but that wasn't all it could do. If the student chose to drink it instead it could turn them into a little bit of a monster, fangs or wings or green skin, none of it was permanent of course. She bounced a little and flipped some of her long brown hair (charmed black for this event) off of her shoulder and finished with a wink.

"For you, or your pumpkin friend."

[[anyone feel free to join, professors or students or both! drina could have accidentally crushed someone else's pumpkin when her's fell. shes probably handed out a few of these potions already if you want to have your student have one! your students could even be making fun of her silliness, totally open to anything!]]

This was Bérénice’s first Pumpkin Festival since her own time as a student at Beauxbatons and she was genuinely looking forward to it. Nostalgia had a way of making one act childlike again, she supposed. The French witch made her way to the formal gardens to join her fellow professors and their students. She was wearing a pale, blush pink set of tailored robes, and her hair was up in a French twist. The weather was a little cooler, but not quite so cold that she needed a thick cloak – her robes were warm enough for the time they would be outside before heading in to the feast.

Pumpkins of varying shape and size had been placed around the gardens for collection, with the main patch itself also being available if students wanted to find something in particular for their creation. The brunette bent down and picked up one that had been left on the edge of a fountain, not too large and therefore not too heavy to carry. She had no idea what she was going to carve into it yet, but they had time yet.

As she wound her way through the low hedgerows, passing some of the older students who appeared more interested in each other than in their pumpkins, Bérénice spotted a fellow Head of House. The brunette made a slow beeline for her, watching with interest as the potions professor handed a student a glowing green vial. Waiting for the student to wander off, Bérénice came up behind the taller witch. “Wonderful robes,” she commented with a warm smile, hoping that Drina wasn’t one of the professors who held Bérénice’s quick ascension against her. Her eyes widening only slightly upon seeing Drina’s makeup up close. “I didn’t think to dress up,” she admitted, looking down at her very nice but very boring attire. “How silly of me.”

She glanced around the gardens, dark eyes twinkling in the reflection of the candlelit pre-carved pumpkins that acted as both decoration and light by which to work in the waning evening light. “I imagine your students will be particularly good at this,” she offered in a vague compliment, referring to the Papillonlisses. “Have you seen any good ones yet?”

Elbow-deep in her pumpkin to scrape out the last of the pulp, Adèle hummed quietly to herself as she worked, a resting smile of content on her lips. She loved crafts and working with her hands more than anything: for this year’s contest, she was going to attempt to carve a headless horseman. There was no telling quite how it would turn out, but that wasn’t about to deter her.

She had just finished ‘sketching’ her carving plan and was about to make her first cut when Professor Alverez drifted past, clearly dressed for the occasion. She smiled at Adèle who beamed back, thanking her for the praise and returning the compliment.
“You’re looking so festive, Professor!”

Adèle flinched as Professor Alverez’s pumpkin hit the ground like a dropped stone. Thank goodness for magic… even if it got dented in the fall, it would be no trouble to repair. Even now, six years into her Beauxbatons education, Adèle continued to marvel at magic.

The Bellefeuille Mousquetaire accepted the proffered green vial, eyebrows coming together gently as she studied it. At Professor Alverez’s cryptic description, Adèle grinned.
“I’ll be sure to use it, thank you!”
As the Papillonlisse Head of House continued onward, the sixteen-year-old glanced down at the vial again. ‘Makin’ monsters’, it was labeled. And she’d said it was for her, or for her pumpkin…

Curiosity had gotten the better of her. Why not both? She’d try half, and then would save the rest for her pumpkin once she’d finished carving it.

Uncorking the small vial with a soft pop!, she raised it to her lips and downed half of it in one go, wrinkling her nose slightly at the taste. It wasn’t bad, but certainly potent: sour was about the only think she could discern. A few seconds passed as she waited, heart thrumming excitedly. Her shoulder-blades tickled, and as she attempted to scratch them she felt two small lumps, one on each side. As the seconds ticked by the lumps grew larger, and before she could properly feel panicked there was another faint pop and something unfurled on either side of her. Heart in her throat, she glanced down to see that she had sprouted bat wings!

After a few heartbeats of shocked silence, Adèle laughed out loud and craned her neck to get a better look. What a brilliant idea! Trying to be mindful of her newly-increased width so she wouldn’t accidentally whack anyone with her wings, the Sixth Year returned to her task with renewed vigor. She couldn’t wait to see what effect the potion might have on her pumpkin!

and at last I see the light, and it's like a fog has lifted
and at last I see the light, and it's like the sky is new
and it's warm and real and bright; and the world has somehow shifted
